Three family walks in Wales

devils pulpit and tintern abbey

With kids still potentially off school, probably getting a bit bored of home schooling. So here are three simple walks to keep them busy and get some fresh air into their lungs and maybe some exercise to tire them out.

For a good family stroll, Cwm Carn forest drive (Sat Nav NP11 7FA) has some great short walks including an adventure playground. The walks are simple but in beautiful autumnal woodlands. Based around a small mountain peak there are trails crisscrossing the entire valley with babbling brooks and mountain bike trails.

There is a fantastic circular walk along the River Wye from Tintern Abbey (Sat Nav NP16 6SQ) to Tintern Station. As you are walking through barren fields alongside the river, keep your eyes open for Herons in the river and see the Barbel fish eating the surface bugs. When you get back to the Majestic Abbey either wander around the Abbey, or you can head to Parva Farm 100mtr away (entrance opposite the Wye Valley Hotel car park) and you could visit the live animals and pick up a bottle of Vino from their vineyard.

Another great family walk for this time of year is in Llanberis. The beautiful Llanberis pass is a wonderful place for walking, climbing and watersports. In particular is the Llyn Padarn Lake (Sat Nav LL5 4TY). This makes for a great family trek and can make a very enjoyable afternoon walking the lakes edge, watching the tour boats puffing steam into the crisp skies and at certain times, you will find the lakes miniature steam railway operating. A lovely fitting treat.

I am a passionate adventurer, loving being in the mountains walking, climbing, scrambling as much as I love being under the water exploring shipwrecks, mines and caverns, or in search of treasure in the depths. I am a Mountain Instructor (MIA), a Winter Mountain Leader, a Scuba Diving Instructor (BSAC, TDI, SDI, IANTD), a skipper for CAT3 waters up to 25mtr and as I’ve built this experience over time, I have written about it and published those works. In addition I am a Chartered Manager with CILT, a member of the institute of Engineering & Technology, a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership & Management and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. I help people fulfill their goals in the Mountains (Worldwide), Scuba Diving (Worldwide), provide location support worldwide for the media and assist with technical and safety support whenever requested.
