Llyn Gwynant Family Hike

Llyn Gwynant Family Hike in Snowdonia.

This is a gentle stroll of about 5km and should take about 2hrs, around one of the most beautiful and accessible small lakes of North Wales. If you want a longer walk, then you can start at Beddgelert instead, and perhaps extend the walk to visit Llyn Gwynant too. Start from the car park at Nant Gwynant (Sat Nav LL55 4NW). Cross the road and walk through a kissing gate.

You are now on the edge of the lake. Follow this path for a short distance until you reach a footbridge over the Glaslyn river. This has a gate on it, that had been left open when I was last there. Cross the bridge and keep to your left.

The path along the lake is now straightforward. You will need to cross a stream initially, and then either skirt the lake to the left, or take a path through the forest (right). The path is rather rough.

Following the path will bring you to a flatter section, which the path crosses, before a final path brings you into a farmyard (Llyndy Isaf). There are dogs here (just near the Farmhouse), that will bark loudly, but they are safely tethered.

Follow the track from the farm to the main road, passing past a barn to your left and then a field (sometimes has cattle in). When you meet the minor road, you turn left and then over a bridge. Left again brings you onto the main road.

Continue along the road, there is no pavement along some of it. You should be walking parallel to the lake and follow the lake back to the car.

This is a great family walk where the kids will love it and the dog will enjoy the fresh air.

I am a passionate adventurer, loving being in the mountains walking, climbing, scrambling as much as I love being under the water exploring shipwrecks, mines and caverns, or in search of treasure in the depths. I am a Mountain Instructor (MIA), a Winter Mountain Leader, a Scuba Diving Instructor (BSAC, TDI, SDI, IANTD), a skipper for CAT3 waters up to 25mtr and as I’ve built this experience over time, I have written about it and published those works. In addition I am a Chartered Manager with CILT, a member of the institute of Engineering & Technology, a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership & Management and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. I help people fulfill their goals in the Mountains (Worldwide), Scuba Diving (Worldwide), provide location support worldwide for the media and assist with technical and safety support whenever requested.
