Winter Diving Loch Coire an Lochain

Please enjoy our film of the first winter Scuba Dive of the UK’s highest water body, Loch Coire an Lochain!! Hope you enjoy it!!! Supported by Northern Diver International

Loch Coire an Lochain is a small freshwater loch located below the summit of Braeriach in the eastern Highlands of Scotland. At 997m above sea level, it is the highest named body of water in the British Isles

This was a winter Scuba dive of Loch Coire an Lochain, situated in the Cairngorms National Park, in the Scottish Highlands. The aim of the team was to complete the first recorded winter dive in the Loch, in essence being the first team to dive the UKs highest body of water under the ice.

The team of four carried out the expedition in February 2021. Over a period of five days, they hiked to the site and carried over 120kg of safety equipment to the dive base. Once the equipment was on site, 15km from the nearest road, they then dived the Loch, filming the dive as they went. The team successfully completed the expedition’s aim, retrieved all equipment and returned safely from the expedition. This video is their story.

I am a passionate adventurer, loving being in the mountains walking, climbing, scrambling as much as I love being under the water exploring shipwrecks, mines and caverns, or in search of treasure in the depths. My real passion lies in combining mountains and water and as such you’ll often find me either in the mountains altitude diving, or in the mountains ice diving. Both exhilarating and peaceful – allowing me to regenerate the inner me, whilst pushing myself physically and mentally.
