Conwy Castle Ridge Hike

This hike takes you past the imposing Conwy Castle, across farmland and along beautiful narrow lanes to the village of Llechwood. The route then rises up over moorland to Conwy mountain, with fabulous views across the sea and Snowdonia. Wear good boots and use OS map OL17. Approximately 8miles and will take 4hours.

Park at Conwy Castle car park (Sat Nav LL32 8AY). Leave the car park by the main entrance, cross the road and turn left. On the right is a kissing gate by a farm gate. Go through the gate and to a stile.

Turn right just inside the wood, follow the path through the field to a farm track, which leads to a lane. Turn left. After 150m go through the gate and keep to the left of the fields aiming for the brow of the hill. Make your way along a path between a hedge on the left and a row of pollarded birches on the right. It ends at the access road to a caravan park and continues on the far side. Go through the gate and follow a gravel path down to the access road again. Go through the gate and continue downhill to a bus shelter.

Turn left to a layby and a kissing gate on the other side of the road.

Go through the gate, down the field to a gate, ignore the farm track to the right and go-ahead to a lane. Turn left. In 150m turn right and through Groesffordd.

Stay straight to a T-junction after 800m. Turn right. After 500m go left passing a house on your left. Beyond the track divides.

Turn right for 200m joining a green path on the left past a lake. Cross a stile to a little col.

Cross the road and onto the track opposite as it rises. After the crossroads take the right past a signpost for the North Wales Path and after reaching a point low on the ridge, follow a stone wall to the right. Follow the ridgeline to the remains of an iron age hill fort. Pass it and stay on the ridge until it becomes a broad grassy track signposted to the North Wales Path. Follow this.

Turn left at the road over the railway, over the A547, past a large school, and at the buildings follow the path on the right.

Follow a path alongside the river as far as the town walls. Turn left back to the castle.

I am a passionate adventurer, loving being in the mountains walking, climbing, scrambling as much as I love being under the water exploring shipwrecks, mines and caverns, or in search of treasure in the depths. My real passion lies in combining mountains and water and as such you’ll often find me either in the mountains altitude diving, or in the mountains ice diving. Both exhilarating and peaceful – allowing me to regenerate the inner me, whilst pushing myself physically and mentally.
