Cnicht has a distinct but misleading image. From the main roads to the south west the mountain has a distinctive shape – pointed with sheer faces on either flank – and nicknamed the “Welsh Matterhorn”.
Two crystal clear mountain lakes lie on either side of Carnau Gwys, an 800 meter high ridge on the Black Mountain, six miles to the North of Abercrave.
Waun Fach is, with a summit height of 811 metres, the highest mountain in the Black Mountains in south-eastern Wales. It is one of the three Marilyns over 600m that make up the range, the others being Black Mountain and Mynydd Troed.
